An ocean crossing is not something you do alone. You need a team that can trust each other, that knows each other's strengths and weaknesses, and that functions well under pressure.
The Founding Crew concept
That's why we introduce the concept of the Founding Crew. These are the first crew members to join the project — before everything is set in stone. They contribute to the planning, help prepare the ship, and form the backbone of the crew.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for people with:
The team building process
We believe in a step-by-step process:
Step 1: Getting to know each other
Informal meetings where interested parties get to know each other and the project.
Step 2: Sailing together
Weekend trips and day sails on the Mariflex Challenge. Nothing builds a team faster than sailing together.
Step 3: Training
Joint training in first aid, safety, navigation and ship maintenance.
Step 4: Preparation
Working together to make the ship sea-ready. This is where you truly get to know the vessel.
Step 5: The voyage
As a team, we depart on an adventure that will change your life.
Diversity in experience
We deliberately seek a mix of experience levels. Experienced sailors bring knowledge and calm, while enthusiastic beginners bring fresh energy and new perspectives. That combination makes a team stronger.
