What is a Founding Crew member?
The Founding Crew are the first people to commit to Ocean Challenge 2027. They are co-founders of the project — not passengers, but active participants who help shape the adventure.
As a Founding Crew member, you have direct influence on the route, planning, and setup of the expedition. You are involved in preparing the vessel, attend training sessions, and build a close-knit crew ready for the ocean together with the rest of the team.
The Founding Crew concept is deliberately designed this way: by getting involved early, you build a bond with the vessel and your fellow crew members that is essential for a successful and safe ocean crossing.
Please note: This is not a commercial charter trip. Ocean Challenge 2027 is a collaborative expedition project. The exact structure, costs, and planning are still being developed. Signing up is non-binding.
What is expected?
We expect commitment and involvement from Founding Crew members. This is what we ask.
Commitment & involvement
As a Founding Crew member, you actively contribute to the project. You are not a passenger, but part of the team that makes the expedition possible.
Teamwork & preparation
You participate in meetings, training sessions, and preparation work. Sailing together, learning together, building the team together.
Vessel maintenance
You help prepare the Mariflex Challenge for sea. This is the perfect moment to get to know the vessel inside and out.
Knowledge & skills
You are willing to learn. Whether you already have experience or not — everyone follows the preparation programme covering offshore sailing, watch keeping, navigation, safety, and emergency procedures.
Financial contribution
Participation requires a financial contribution to cover costs. This contribution is in principle non-refundable. The exact structure will be worked out in consultation with those who sign up.
