Meteorology for water sports
A good weather course that teaches you what really matters on the water is hard to find. That is why Demarage Zeil Centrum runs a one-day course with Rob Groenland, meteorologist at the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI). By the end of the day you will independently plan a route from Vlissingen to Las Palmas based on a real weather situation. Sailors and landlubbers alike are very welcome.

Programme
Morning: weather fundamentals
Global circulation, how high and low pressure systems form and how to read the wind from a weather chart. You will also learn to recognise fronts, so you can prepare in time as a sailor.
Afternoon: small-scale effects
Local meteorological phenomena you notice straight away on the water, such as cloud streets and land and sea breezes.
Final exercise: your own route plan
You put it all into practice in a route plan from Vlissingen to Las Palmas, using (Bracknell) weather charts, GRIB files and detailed wind, weather and wave data.
